What is a Vampire?
A vampire is an undead creature stemming from European folklore. The tales expose the vampire as having an extremely violent nature; Vampires are known for causing chaos amongst communities and draining bodies of blood. The eighteenth-century witnessed a mass panic similar to that of the European witch-hunts. This is when the term ‘vampire’ was coined. There is evidence to suggest that prior to this term, vampirism existed under a range of different names: shtriga, vrykolakas, strigoi, draugr and chupacabra.
